Social Sciences Department
The Social Sciences department is one of 7 Learning Zones at Greenhead and includes:
Subjects taught at all Key Stages:
History, Geography, R.E and Citizenship/PSHE
Subjects taught at Key Stage 5:
Sociology, Psychology and Law
The Year 7 History, Geography and R.E curriculum is delivered through the foundation programme.
Facilities
The classrooms for History, Geography and R.E are situated together in one part of the school, with Citizenship taught in another area. There is good access to ICT facilities. Staff work in their own teaching base and stress is placed on maintaining a high quality learning environment with attractive and current displays.
Curriculum
The curriculum has been designed to provide a broad and balanced education that is engaging and relevant to our students' needs. We are placing the emphasis on creating a learning zone that has a common vision which strives to meet the needs of all students; teachers who have high expectations of all students, regardless of ability, and who have the necessary skills to help students meet their full potential; a safe, secure and stimulating learning environment, where achievement is valued, expected and respected. Learning should be exciting, purposeful and fun. Teaching should be inventive, of the highest quality and fun too.
To achieve this we need:
- To develop the student's independent learning skills - skills of investigation and interpretation.
- To develop the use of ICT within the department
