Department Aims

 

The study of a modern foreign language opportunities for pupils to:

  • Become increasingly familiar with the sounds, written form and grammar of French/Spanish/Urdu;
  • Use their knowledge with growing confidence and competence to understand what they hear and read, and to express themselves in speech and writing.
  • Develop their language skills and language-learning skills, including applying their knowledge of grammar and structures so that they become increasingly independent learners and users of French/Spanish/Urdu.
  • Use French/Spanish/Urdu as the principal means of communication within the classroom, and beyond it where opportunities exist;
  • Increase their cultural awareness by learning about French/Spanish/Urdu-speaking countries and their people, and working with materials from those countries.
   
 

Year 9 GCSEs

 

Following the great success of the trial we carried out last year, all Year 9 students now have the opportunity to take a half GCSE in French or Spanish.  Urdu students also have an opportunity to attend an after-school class to follow a half-GCSE in Urdu.

   
 

Events & Activities

 

5 February 2007 - Trip to Barcelona

 
Miss Rowe has organized to take 23 students to Barcelona for 5 days. they will be flying from Leeds Bradford airport on Monday 5th February and returning on Friday 9th. As well as improving their language skills, we hope they will learn more about the culture of a foreign country and find out the benefits of studying Spanish.
   
 
   
 

18 - 22 May - Trip to Paris & Disneyland

 

Year 8 and Year 9 - SOME PLACES STILL AVAILABLE

 

We will  be staying at the Chateau de Grande Romaine Hotel, a 19th century chateau set in 70 acres of grounds with excellent sporting facilities. There are fully qualified members of staff on site who will arrange and supervise activities. On Saturday we shall visit Paris and its many attractions.  On Sunday the highlight of the trip is Disneyland, followed by a disco in the evening. On Monday we will spend the day shopping before returning home.
