CHALLENGE is Greenhead's scheme for stretching it's more able and talented students. It's aim is to ensure that these students are recognized by teachers and by the students themselves and that strategies are then put in place to bring out their potential. Many of these strategies involve considering how we manage our teaching and learning. For instance our CHALLENGE students are encouraged to learn more independently which in turn requires them to understand how they learn.
Some of the successful strategies that we use at Greenhead are:
- Organizing activities with local universities that raise aspirations and awareness.
- Getting students to complete individual learning styles profiling that provides them with a comprehensive picture of their own learning preferences.
- Grading the students more regularly than the rest of the school to help them drive themselves forward.
- Organizing events with more able students from local schools.
- Working closely with parents to raise awareness as to how they can support their child's progress.
The scheme shows year on year success with the students not only adding value to their target grades but actually adding more value than other students do.
