Mathematics and Computing Specialist Status School
Department of Mathematics
Historical Background.
In 2001 Greenhead High School was involved in the Educational Reorganisation which meant that pupils started to attend Greenhead at the age of 11. At the time of reorganisation the Maths Department were housed in Portacabins on the lower school field. 2002 saw us move into a new extension that had been built, this has since become known as E-Block which has panoramic views over the school site, Cliffe Castle and local woodlands.
We are housed on the upper floor and the Department consists of ten rooms and three offices. In 2003 one of the classrooms was converted into an ICT suit and in 2005 we converted another classroom to an ICT suit. During this expansion of ICT facilities we purchased a number of Interactive Whiteboards (seven in total) and a further three were purchased in 2006. This expansion of ICT facilities means that within the Department we have an Interactive Whiteboard in each teaching room and we have access to two fully equipped ICT suites.
Teaching and Learning now takes place in classrooms where information can be obtained and questions can be answered at the push of a button.
