Year 7 visit to Armley Mills, Leeds
Year 7 visit to Armley Mills Industrial Museum, Leeds
As part of their Foundation topic, Year 7 pupils visited Armley Mills Museum in Leeds to experience what life was like working in the world's largest woolen mill in the 18th and 19th century.
Pupils viewed exhibits showing the history of textiles, clothing and engine and locomotive manufacture in the area. The museum also has a cinema where pupils watched a black and white 1920’s silent movie – they found this very different to today’s blockbuster movies but funny nevertheless laughing at the antics of the Keystone Cops!!
Pupils also had the chance to try on traditional clothes from the period and see how they were made.
The visit was both interesting and informative and the experience has helped the students to understand something of what life was really like for children working in the mills.
