A level psychology go to Forensic Psychology conference

Year 12 and 13 students attended a forensic psychology conference on Monday 19th November in Leeds.

Presentations were given by two leading practising female forensic psychologists. One of them works with women prisoners and talked about the work that she does. Sessions included offender profiling, the concept of the psychopath, reliability of eye witness testimony. Students were given case studies to read and had to answer questions about whether the behaviour of the people in the case studies was due to nature or nurture. Students then took part in question and answer sessions sharing their decisions to the whole conference.

Finally there was a talk by an ex-convict who had pulled himself up from being a down and out from being an addict and sleeping on part benches to being a probation officer. This gave a sense of real self motivation and achievement and had a very positive effect on our students.

They all thoroughly enjoyed the conference and felt very inspired at the end of it. We now have quite a few potential forensic psychologists!
